Elder Willford Woodruff addressed the saints; eulagized there
on the extent of their improvements since he last visited them. "These
vallies of the mountains are almost the only place on the earth where
peace reigns. Our object in all that we do should be to build up
the kingdom of God with our substance and not place our hearts upon
it to idolize; if we ^desire to^ gather gold let it be the golden grain from our
fields, and then let us take good care of it, that our wives and children
may have plenty of bread when famine shall spread dismay among
all nations. Cultivate the earth, take care of your flocks and herds,
let the holy spirit of God dwell in you, and then you will be
contented and happy, and have no disposition to go to the mines to
seek it there.
