Spring City

Elder W. Woodruff,
Salt Lake City.

Or to Prest. John Taylor

Dear Brother or Brethren

On my way to Richfield
conference, I met with the people
of Mayfield—a fine little settlement
and found them like children. We
had a most excellent ^time^ there. Next day
met with the people of Fayette, who
seemed to be warm hearted and alive.
In the evening of same day, met
with the people of Gunnison—a large
and attentive audience—a good time.
Next day, Friday, started for Richfield
where I had fondly hoped to meet Bro.
E. Snow, but was much disappointed
to find him absent, however, we attended
the conference—held five long and
strong meetings, and did the best
we could. Found things there in

a very undesirable state, yet, not past
redemption. Brother A. J. Allred
of this place accompanied me.

We labored with all our mights to do them
good, and I have reason to hope that we
were, mesaurably, successful. We left
them on Monday morning last with
reciprocal good will. Preached at Gunnison
on Monday evening on our return, and
on Tuesday evening, reached home,
feeling not a little sore by reason of the trip

I would here suggest that if the quarterly
conferences are sufficiently systematized
as to the times of their sessions to warrant
their publication, it would aid me and
perhaps others in arranging to attend them

I cannot, very well, stand long journeys,
but with timely notice I might manage,
by taking my time, to attend several of them
in Utah, Juab, Millard and Sevier counties
and possibly elsewhere, if desired

You will, probably, receive
the minutes of the Richfield
conference, which will save me the
details.

Should Congress feel like doing
right, they will vacate the Indian
Reservation of Gunnison and order its
survey into quarter sections that homestead
and preemption may be obtained by
the inhabitants dwelling thereon, which
they very much desire. I think I gave
them all necessary instructions in view
of the probability that Congress would take
that step

I remain Very Truly
Your Brother in the Gospel
