John Cook Bennett

John Cook Bennett (1804-1867) was born 3 Aug. 1804 in Fairhaven, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. He was the son of John Bennett and Abigail Cook. He married Mary A. Barker on 9 Jan. 1826. He was baptized in 1840 in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois. He served in the Nauvoo Legion as assistant president to the First Presidency, as mayor of Nauvoo, and as chancellor of the University of Nauvoo while Wilford Woodruff was on the Nauvoo City Council. He died 5 Aug. 1867 in Polk City, Polk Co., Iowa.
