Presidents Wilford Woodruff, Geo. Q. Cannon and
Joseph F. Smith:

First Presidency:

Dear Brethren: Your letter of the 9th inst.,
requesting an expression of my feelings and a state-
ment of my circumstances in regard to the per-
formance of a mission to Europe, has been received.

In reply, I thank you for the honor of such a
request, and state: That I am perfectly willing to
go to the nations of the earth to preach the Gospel
of Jesus Christ
, and my humble endeavors to do
good to my fellow-man I readily tender, to be
used whenever they may be of most service, knowing
that God is sufficient kind to aid and strengthen
those who desire to do His will.

I have been in this country about 17 years. My
age is 33 years in January, 1892. I have a wife and
three children. At present I am indebted about
$150.00/100, on account of building and much sickness
of late. But though my income is only moderate, I
have steady employment, and through the blessings of my
Heavenly Father I trust all such indebtedness will soon

be settled. As we have our own home, my family will
have no rent to pay, and for the feeding and clothing
of them while I may be absent, I can but rely
upon the blessings of heaven, feeling assured that God
will provide for all needs, and that the Saints in Zion
will not allow them to suffer.

I can speak and understand French some-
what. The German language I also understand to a
limited extent. I was born in the Canton of Berne,
Switzerland, and have some relatives there.

So, with the hope that I may be of service as
a servant of God, if my brethren deem me worthy of,
and competent to fill, such an honorable calling, if it
is suitable to you, about the last of March or first
of April, 1892, I can be prepared to answer to your
call.

Very Respectfully,

Your Brother in the Gospel,

Jules M. Giauque.
