Journal Entry

August 31, 1879 ~ Sunday

31 Sunday Our Brethren was at our waggon befor we
was up to bid us wanus Deas (good morning) the family
with whom we stoped treated us as well as they could
if they had been Latter Day Saints They are such in principle
we held a meeting with what their were left in the settlement
The two leading men who had followed us to Albuquerque had
not returned and others were gone herding if they had been
at home I think we should have Baptized quite a Number
of the settlement we held the meeting in the same catholic chapel
that did bf before. The Catholic Priest has great power
and influence over the Indian tribes after meeting and getting
our dinner we left and Passed the villages of Lagoonia Cuvere
Cuvera Santana and several other small villages and
camped at night at Mr MCCarty's He treated us kind 25 M[iles]

Sunday My Nephite Brother was at my waggon Before I was out of Bed to bid me wanus Deas, good Morning Our Amegos (Friends) Jose & Maria Coraco treated us as kind as they could have done if they had Been L D Saints they are such in principle we held a Meeting with what people there was left in the village Neither the Govornor nor spiritual Advisor had returned from the Islata fort If they had Been at home I think we should have Baptized some of the people there. The Catholic power is very great over all of these tribes after Meeting and getting our Dinner we left & passed the villages of Lagoona Covera Santanna & several other small villages and camped at Night at Br ^Mr^ Mccarty's He treated us kind 25 M[iles]
