Santaquin Prest Woodruff Dear Bro Andrew Lovegreen wishes me to write to you and give you the Reason that he could not be in S L City to day to start on Mission to Sweeden as he Expected he had sold a portion of his Land & Water with the understanding that the pay was to be Ready the first of august but he has failed to get any of it he also had made rarrangements and sold his team but since making the arrangements about it One of his Horses Died which left him with only One Horse and Wagon Hence this was a Draw back to Him in Desposing of the Team Henc he has failed to Raise any money at all to pay his fare the Ward has Raised 65.00 for him but this is all that he has up to Date he feels as though he would like to fill his Mission if he can get means Enough to Just pay his fare he is willing to go, if it is agreeable to you, he feels confident that by October next he can have means Enough to go Hence he would like to Have time Extended tell then or some Date near that time that you Designate Respectfully Eli Openshaw Bp Give him time asked for & notify him L J n

Salt Lake City, U. T. . President A. M. Cannon, Salt Lake Stake, Dear Brother: We are informed that Brother Abinadi Pratt is going about the country and seizing every opportunity that he can obtain of speaking to the people in the various Wards, and preaching false doc- trine, uttering false propecies, and unsettling the people by his improper teachings. Will you please instuct your Bishops not to invite him nor to permit him to speak at their public meetings, as we feel that he is an unsuitable person to be permitted to assume the functions of a teacher. Provo City, President Wilford Woodruff. Dear Brother, The Brigham Young Academy commenced its fourteenth academic year last Monday morning with over 100 students, which number is still increasing, and by the indications we expect one of the largest atten- dances this Academy has ever seen. There are now al- ready 45 Normals enrolled, of whom 10 come under the Church appropriation thus far. The names of those selected on the strength of promises given dur- ing last academic year, are as follows: Charles Dorius, of Ephraim; Wm. Winters of Mt. Pleasant; John Johnson, of Elsinore; Geo. Shelley of Lehi; Alex- ander Nielson, of Provo; John H. Wootton, of American Fork; Alice Findley, of Panacca, Nev.; Mary D. Hansen, of Parowan; Amelia Fillerup, of Lake Shore; Annie E. Carlson, of Mayfield. There have been, however, so many Normals last year, who have paid their tuition all along in the hope to come under the appropriation, that I am in great embarrassment in regard to some of them.
