Letter from Moses Foster Sweetser, 19 February 1890
Boston, Mass., . Hon. Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Sir: I am just in receipt of the epitome which you have kindly sent me. I shall endeavor to use it in my book. Can you also send me a year-book or almanac or something of that kind from which I can learn something about the geographical distribution of the Latter Day Saints, and about the size and condition of their towns in Utah, etc.? You perhaps remember that the Catholics Episcopalians, and other religious sects issue such books yearly. Or is there any thing in the way of a gazetteer of Utah or illustrated numbers of the "Deserett News"? And further, will you tell me what language the word deserett is from and explain what it means? Very truly yours, M.F. Sweetser
Letter from George Teasdale, 19 February 1890
President Wilford Woodruff and Council Beloved Brethren: With this mail we send you a monthly statement for January 1890 from which you will learn that we have paid £39.13.0 to Mr Fazakerly for bookbinding done in the last three months of 1889 and which righ[t] ly belongs to last years business, and also one Milk bill which is charged in this month belon- ged to December, but the people were late in bring- ing it, and the Type for the hymnbook should have been in last years business, but we obtained time on it. There was a sister Louise Kegel, in Palestine sent £39.8.8 which she donated for the "United Order." She paid her tithing and wished this sum to be con- secrated to the "United Order," and so we sent it to you, as you will perceive. Bro. Hintze brought it from Turkey. Your favor of the 27 January is received and read with the usual interest. We are always most happy to hear from you. I had no design to influence you in any way with regard to Bro. Spence all I wished to say was that if you desired to keep Bro. Spence in his valuable position we had a man here who could do the work in this office and who
