Letter from Ephraim Millennium Peterson Mansfield, 8 September 1895
Beaver Pres't. Wilford Woodruff, Dear Bro.: I would like to have my mission postponed from Nov. 9th, until January 5th; after the latter date, will be ready to start any day. Your Brother, Ephraim Mansfield All right, let it be so, and so notify him. J. F. S.
Letter from James Jensen Jr., 8 September 1895
Grover, President Wilford Woodruff Dear Brother Brother Ole Petersen of this Ward has received a notifi- cation to go on a mission to Scandinavia. Brother Petersen lost his wife by death about 2 weeks ago who left him with a family of 8 children, the oldest being a boy of 17 years. He has the children with him and would like to keep them together. It will be very difficult for him to arrange this and go at the time set which is October 26th next. He however is willing to do as you wish but he thought it proper to let you know his circumstances. He will be pleased if you will answer this and he will go or stay as your desire. Very Respectfully Your brother in the Gospel James Jensen Bishop of Grover Ward [sideways text] I think bro. Ole Petersen should be honorably released from this call, until he is able to leave his children safely, and go on his mission without loss. J. F. S. [end of sideways text]
