Fillmore . Pres. Woodruff: Dear Bro. On June 5, 1893 I received notice of a mission, but on account of circumstances was released for the time being to report when ready. I am now ready to fill a mission. If it is agreeable I would prefer going to England as my wife wishes me to visit her relatives. Other than this your choice would be my choice. I will be ready to go in October. Anxiously waiting a reply.

Glenwood Wilford Woodruff Dear Brother. Your favor of the 4th inst came to hand, to herefrom I see my servises are required as a missionary to Scandinavia. I am very greatful for the opportunity to preach the gosple in my native Land, for I know it is one of the principle duties of a servant of god to promulgate the gosple in the World. My financial affairs are not very flattering I have 3 acres of ground in the shape of city lots valued at $300.00 to help support my fammilie of 7 persons while I am gone I there- fore have to depend largly upon the aid of the people for the nessisary means to go. I believe the people will do all in their power to help me. I hope the lord will open the way that I may be able to get the money required to fit mee out to go then I will be ready at the appointed time Your Brother in the gosple Jens C Jenson P. S. I have heard ^learned^ from the testamonies of a great many returned missionaries also from letters recieved from elders abroad that it is allmost impossible to do any good without some money on hand all the time when they get into the field. any advice information or suggestion you may feel to offer under the circumstances will be a greatfully received and carried out to the best of my abbillity J. C. J Herbert H. Bell Bishop of Glenwood ward Very well. I hope he will succeed. J. F. S.

Letter from A. C. Nelson, 10 September 1895

The First Pres of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dear Sirs: Your communication of the 5 inst. inquiring if it would be agreeable to my feelings and consistent with my circumstances to take a mission to the Southern States is received. In reply, will say: That so far as my feelings are concerned it would be agreeable, but my financial circumstances are, at present, such that I think it not consistent till some future time. I have been attend- ing school and have since spent two years in the Church Schools receiving but a small salary. Now I have charge of the Public Schools of this city and am left with a family. of 5 small children and no home as yet for them. Still I feel willing to do my part in forwarding the work of the Lord. I prefer, at present to wait till some future time, if right and proper, so to do. Please let me know. Your truly, A. C. Nelson See over.

Letter from John Waldemar Beck, 10 September 1895

To the Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of L. D. S. Dear Brethren: The S. S. Mariposa arrived here on the 5th Inst. Bros. Jos. Iuinney & Wm Jeppson arrived here ^all^ well and enjoying good health. they have been treated very kindly by the Ship's officers and crew. many of whome gave them hearty handshakings, and wished them much success etc as they took leave of the Ship. We received your kind and welcome letter of the Ult, also the check $500.00 for which we feel truly greatful, for we have now paid all our debts, both here and in Tonga. We can assure you that we will be careful with this means and economise as much as possible: for several months past we have not charged anything to the Church that is outside of the return fares etc. all expenses on the Mission has been carried by the Elders in their respective fields. Our aim is to make the Mission self supporting as fast as possible: each branch that builds meeting houses or make any other improvements are required to do the work themselves and pay for materials used, where as heretofore in has been paid by the Church. We received the Websters Unabrigded Dic. that you sent with the Elders and were indeed pleased to get. it is a valuable addition to our library.
