24. G Q Cannon went to Provo to Attend a Meeting I spent
in the office. I met with Bishop George Pitkin concerning
the College Lands in Logan. The Land was sold to the
Brethren in Booming Days & sold to high & now they
cannot Pay for them I received a Letter from Bell

Which call came very unexpected to me not knowing it before hand. Salt Lake City, . 189 Elder John T. Wells, [Salt Lake] City, Dear Brother: Your name has been suggested and accepted as a Missionary to Southern States. The work of the Lord is progressing in the nations, and faithful, energetic Elders are needed in the ministry to promulgate the Everlasting Gospel, openings for doing good appearing in numerous directions. Yourself, with others, having been selected for this mission, should there be no reasonable obstacles to hinder you from going, we would be pleased to have you make your arrangements to start from this City at as early a date as March 21st, 1896. Please let us know, at your earliest convenience, what your feelings are with regard to this call. If you accept it you will receive no further notification, but will be expected to present yourself at the Historian's Office to be set apart on the day previous to ^t^hat appointed for your departure. Letter from Reuben Thomas Rhees, 24 January 1896

View, Weber Co., Utah . To the First Presidentcy Dear bretheren, I yesterday recieved a letter asking me, if I had no reasonable objection, to be prepaired to leave on the 2nd of May next upon a mission to the Eastern States. I am not as perfect mentaly or physically as I would like to be, but all that I am and have are in the hands of the Lord for Him to use as He sees fit. My only desire is that I may be able to use my feble ability, with what property He has or may bless me with, for the furtherence of His purposes here upon the earth. But before excepting this call, I wish to make the same statement of my circumstances to you as I made to the Presidents of Seventies here, when they spoke to me about taking a mission; and which statement they advised me to make if I should get a call to depart so early in the season. In the spring of 1884, when 16 years of age, and working on my father's farm, I bought 2 colonies of bees which I tended and increased as best I could during spare moments,
