4. I met with the Twelve in the Temple it was Expected that
Moses Thatcher would Meet with the Twelve at 5 oclok
but we were informed that Br Thatcher was quite bad
last night. The Doctor said He must go to the Hospital
As He could do nother [nothing] for him here. The Coop Waggon Company
Met at our office

From it I understand that I am called upon a mission to Samoa, and to leave San Francisco, December 10th 1896. I feel very timid as also pleased to be called to so high and responsible position. With the help of the Lord I will prepare to start at the time specified, and shall seek earnestly to magnify this calling to the best of my ability, and honor to the Priesthood. Lund who recently departed on a mission to Scandinavia desired that an allowance of Eight Dollar per month be granted his family until his return. to be drawn in produce from the Mt. Pleasant Tithing Office Trusting this will meet your approval as Bro Lunds circumstances are such that we deem this appropriati[on] necessary to supply his family with the necessaries of life, so that they may not be dependent upon charity of a more public nature.
