June 11, 1897 ~ Friday

June 11th I slept comfortably until 8 a.m. then dressed & ate breakfast. I staid at
home rested & walked out at times. Emma & I went to the old house which
Owen has been fixing up to live in. it is nicely fitted up with carpets, furniture
&c. Bro John Chamberlain & Mr Van Sant called, they staid for over an hour.
played on the Piano. want to sell Owen one. I went to bed at 10 pm. and slept.

Woodruff, Salt Lake City Dear Brother: In reply to your favor of the 20th of May, in which you inform me that you desire me to take a mission to Scandinavia and that I am to leave July 31, 1897. Papeete, Tahiti, To the First Presidency, Salt Lake City Utah. Dear Brethren: Elders J. E. Willey and E. T. Hatch ar- rived at Papeete on board to City of Papeete the 1st of June. They arrived in good health and spirits and report having a pleasant passage down. I found all progressing quite well in the Tuomotu Islands. The most discouraging feature there is the Catholic influence. While I was at Hikueru-Mohi one of our men was discharged from the public school service and a catholic put in his place.
