“Our Prophets Are Inspired”

by Maddie Christensen

“I love looking at the writings of Wilford Woodruff and seeing that the same truths taught today can be tied to a prophet of the Restoration,” says Garry Weiss, volunteer for the Wilford Woodruff Papers Foundation. “To me his words are scriptures, and to know he was a witness of the Restoration and a friend of Joseph Smith is powerful.”

Garry recently started volunteering for the Public Relations team, writing Come, Follow Me insights that are shared online. He is grateful to learn more about Wilford Woodruff.

“To me this is a privilege,” he says, “because Wilford Woodruff is one of my heroes in many ways and it has been a joy through the years since I joined the Church to read and learn about this great man.”

Garry has been learning about Wilford Woodruff for much of his life. “As a young missionary I loved his missionary stories and knew people on my mission that are related to him. To make it even more personal, through the new Wilford Woodruff Papers Relative Finder, I recently found out that I am distantly related to him.”

Garry is grateful to be able to study Wilford Woodruff’s words as he writes his Come, Follow Me articles. He has felt the power of the Spirit in words that were written over a hundred years ago and shares, “It is a testimony to me that scriptures are true and our prophets are inspired.”
