On June 14, 1859 Wilford Woodruff recorded in his journal,
“I set out about 100 cabbages from William Carter Stanes this morning. I have a very fine bed of garden strawberries raised from the seed by Stanes. They show the best of any in the territory & worth cultivation.”
Wilford Woodruff loved his garden and spent many hours planting, weeding, and caring for the many fruits and vegetables he raised. He enjoyed trying different varieties. His hearty garden was one of the joys in his life.
