We should always seek heavenly guidance and trust that the Spirit will be there. But how do we know if the Spirit is speaking to us? There are three steps we can take: 

1. Ensure that we are worthy of His guidance

2. Seek to recognize the fruits of the Spirit

3. Trust that God trusts us.

First, be worthy of the Spirit. Elder Richard G. Scott taught, “Exercise, reasonable amounts of sleep, and good eating habits increase our capacity to receive and understand revelation.”

Second, know the fruits of the Spirit. Wilford Woodruff counseled, “Every man should get the Spirit of God and then follow its dictates. This is revelation. It [doesn’t] make any difference what the Spirit tells you to do, it will never tell you to do anything that is wrong.” 

And finally, trust that God trusts you. As we choose to live worthy and acknowledge the Lord's hand in our life, we can be confident that as we ask for guidance, He will make His will clear to us.
