Journal Entry

July 23, 1835 ~ Thursday

Rode in company for the last time with Elder Warren
Parrish
to the mouth of Sandy Br Parrish Preached to several
hundreds for the space of three hours & baptized 1 person
the time had now arived however painful it might be

for me [to] take the parting hand with Br PARRISH I know not
that we shall ever meet again untill we meet in Eternity
may the blessings of God crown his days & prepare him for
the Celestial Kingdom O worthy Brother farewell but not
forever I am now left alone without human aid to assist
me in preaching the gospel my circuit is about 100 miles in
extent besides the care of all the Churches within the limits
of the same who is weack & I not weack who is offended
& I burn not [2 Corinthians 11:28-29] O may the LORD give me strength as my day [Deuteronomy 33:25]
& many souls as seals of my ministry O GOD prepare me
for the battle. I took the parting hand with Brothers Parrish
& Utley who was intending to Journey together t[o] Kirtland
then returned to Col Copeland's distance of the day 20 miles

I rode fior the last time in company with Elder Warren Parrish to the mouth of Sandy Brother Parrish preached to several hundred for the space of three hours and baptized 1 person At the close of the Baptism I took the parting hand with Elder Parrish and Brother Seth Utley who was to accom- pany Brother Parrish to Kirtland. This plasced me under great responsibility even the care of all the Churches in Kentucky and Tennessee and I was on a circuit of some two hundred miles and was travelling and preaching daily this great responsibility filled my mind with solumn reflections and I felt to pray the Lord to give me grace equal to my day after parting with Elder Parrish I rode 20 miles to Col Copelands and spent the night

At the close of the baptism I took the parting hand of Elder Parish and Seth Otlay who was to accompany him to Kirtland. This placed me under great respon- sibility having the care of all the churches in Kentucky and Tennessee; for I was on a circuit of some two hundred miles and travelling and preaching daily. Elder Parrish returned to Kirtland ^left^. I continued to traveled alone through the year, and extended my labors both in Kentucky and Tennessee. I baptized 43 persons during this season, 31 after bro. Parrish left me.

The time had now arived (however painful it might be) for me to take the parting hand with Brother Parish & I know not that we shall meet again untill we meet again in Eternity as he was one of the Seventy chosen it is now expedient for him to return to Kirtland & also the will of God for me to tarry & labour with the Churches
