March 28, 1838 ~ Wednesday

28th A hand pointing to the right A hand pointing to the right A hand pointing to the right I receieved three letters two from our friends in Scarborough & one from Elder
Jonathan H. Hale from Kirtland. Br Hale letter was Dated March 6th & it was a letter of great interest it contained
an account of the Saints leaveing kirtland for the land of Zion & of the judgments of God that were comeing
upon Kirtland & also upon the whole land he sent me the counsel of the Presidency of our quorum which was to
teach the Saints upon the Islands of the sea to immediately sell their property & prepare themselves to go
to the land of Zion which is a place of safety & deliverance that they may escape the just judgments of God
that are at the doors. I also perused the late papers of the day found that all things indicate that great trouble
is at the doors & that the Lord is nigh at hand, both the signs in heaven & on earth are visible in fulfillment
of the word of God. I walked to Br Ames & spent the night was still quite unwell distance 4 miles

ON the I received a letter from Zion, requesting me to counsel the Saints I had baptized to sell their property and gather up to Zion. About this time the Lord was manifesting Himself upon the Islands in various ways, by dreams, visions, healings, signs and wonders. I will relate one peculiar circumstance of this kind that occurred. Mr. Ebenezer Carver had been investigating our doctrines for quite a length of time, and, having a great desire to know the truth of our religion, he walked to the sea shore, wishing that he might have some manifestation in proof of its truth.

On the I received three letters two from our friends in Scarborough and one from Jonathan Hale from Kirtland. It contained an account of the Saints leaving that place for the land of Zion and of the judgments of God that was overtaking it and about to come upon the whole land. He sent me the counsel of the Presidency of our quorum which was that I should teach the Saints upon the Islands of the sea to imme- diately sell their property and prepare themselves to go up to the land of Zion.
