Next day I met in
council with the Twelve and First Presidency when the
subject of nominating a candidate for the vice Presidency
of the U. S. came up. They had nominated
General Arlington Bennet not knowing that he was
a native of Ireland. The final decision was for
me to write to Col. Solomon Copeland ^of Tennessee^ to invite him
to visit us and see if he would suffer his name
