Letter from Ilus Fabyan Carter, 1 November 1854
Portland
Brother Wilford
I recd your letter by
the last mail in about the usual time
containing the Draft, on Mrs. Bingham
She refuses to pay it unless I will
guarantee that the money shall be
used to pay his, her sons expenses home.
that of course I know nothing of and
after a long correspondence with her
she came to the conclusion that she
will not pay it, so that you will
be obliged to collect the amount of
[Edson]. I should have written you by
the last mail but was waiting for
Mrs. Bingham to decide about this.
I hope that this affair will soon
be closed up so that we may have
something else to write about.
I feel anxious to hear how you are
getting along with Horner, hope you
will pin him this time. presume
the next mail will bring me
