Letter to Abraham Owen Smoot, 7 June 1856
Sister Smoot is with us to dinner, & says you are not coming in, so I thought I would write a word & send you a few strawburies as a token of remenberance, our Eastern Mail is ^in^ & brought many papers & letters [some] letters, but 3 bags were lost in the [wether], most of the Letters are gone. the Indians war continies in Oregon. many lives are lost, great whirlwinds in the States many towns Destroyed by fire & wind. I am not very well at present, but worked to hard a few days past. I am glad to learn by Sister Smoot that you are getting along well in your School Our whole city is at work on the canal to get the water of Big Cottenwood into the City. We are all well as usual Our garden grows finely, but our wheat is drying up badly in the big field. I have not got the watch fixed yet but will try to soon Yours Truly W. Woodruff
