Letter from Robert Lang Campbell, 5 June 1861
G. S. L. City, Bros Geo. A & W. Woodruff: The Express arrived early this p. m. and I thought I would drop you a few words. Everything in the office is packed up and mostly deposited in your north room preparatory to a whitewash which we expected to come off to day, but have been disappointed. I have just notified Sister Bathsheba who is writing you a note. I called on Bro. Woodruff's folks just now (6:30 p.m.) and found Sister Woodruff, Wilford Jr. & Sister Snow just getting out of a conveyance; they had been in company with Sister Eliza Snow on a visit north; and were all well. Bro. Woodruff's father as you will have learned is dead & buried Prest. Kimball preached his funeral sermon. The historical corps hired a carriage and attended the funeral. The epidemic prevailing, principally among children, is very severe in many instances, although it passes over generally in a slight manner and but for a few days. The fruit in many orchards looks promising, others present a rather poor shew for an average crop. I understand the water has been divided out in the city to-day. Irrigation has been pretty generally resorted to. Jordan is very high
