May 04, 1879 ~ Sunday

May 4, 1879 An arrow An arrow An arrow Sunday I wrote 4 Pages to John
A hand pointing to the right Taylor & council and gave a hasty account of my
travels and the same to Edward Hunter and asked him to
send an Order to Sarah for $75 for produce I also wrote
a lengthy letter to Phebe a Snow and commenced one to
Moses Thatcher, wrote one Page laid down my Pen went to
the Evening Meeting spoke 45 Minuts returned to my tent
Eat a Bowl of Bread and Milk went to Bed in my tent

Letter to John Taylor, 4 May 1879
Point Look Out, Colorado, President John Taylor & Counicil Dear Brethren, After being nearly starved to Death for the want of News (not Bread) not having received a letter or paper for two months I retrurned to my present location after a journey of 17 days with John W & others visiting it San francisco Mountain, & its surrounding country I arived here on the 28 April & found awaiting me a package of 20 letters, and Months paper & on the following Day President Taylors Messenger concerning the ferry arived Bringing with package of letters 21, & with Months papers, so I had some 40 letters & two Months paper lying before me to read and Answer, so I had a feast after a famine, which gave me the Account of your conference, & of laying the corner stone of the Manti Temple, on ordination of M Thatcher and the news in General all of which I was glad to hear. I will say that I am enjoying good health and spirits I wrote some 30 letters during the 3 days following my Mail arived we are in hopes of having a Mail line from Kanab through here Moen Copy before long. Before your Messenger arived concerning the ferry we had word that Sister Lee had two offers from Gentiles to buy the ferry and a man informed us that he had one of Sister Lees Boys say that He Be D`d if He would not sell to the highest Bidder Either Jew or Gentile. We felt a great anxiety about it and having a talk with Lot Smith, who said whe would help pay for the ferry, so John W employed an Agent to go direct to the ferry and purchase it for the people He had been gone about 4 Hours, when your Messenger arived, and we all felt glad that we

Sunday I [FIGURE] wrote 4 pages to John Taylor & council gave a History of my travels & the same to Bishop Edward Hunter & asked him to send an order to Sarah for $75 for produce I also rote a lengthy letter to Phebe A Snow of Brigham City & commenced one to Moses Thatcher wrote one page laid down my pen went to the Evening Meet spoke 45 Minutes returned to my tent Eat a Boul of Bread & Milk went to Bed in my tent, was taken with great pain in my stomach & Bowels which soon [FIGURE] Terminated in a severe Dedly attack of the Billious cramp cholic John W Young Bro Lewis & Wakeland ^waited^ on me through the night I had 10 Attacks during the night with cramp in the stomach & vitals with such severity that the last one I had took away my Breath & it was ownly restored to me through the administration of the Elders. My Nature could not have withstood another attack of the same violence without taking my life, through the administration of the Elders and the Mercy of God I was saved from another attack &
