August 04, 1879 ~ Monday

Aug 3. We Prepared to return and Petone took his company
and started out hunting on his return home they over took
us on the road loaded Down they killed to day 11 deer and
Antilope They Killed in all upon this hunt 23 old ones
and 4 young ones total 27. And it was a remarkable
fact that they killed Evry Deer and Antilope they saw on the
hunt I spent the night at Br Easts on Sholo 20 M[iles].

Petone Keys crossed gave three young Mormon Elders the strongest
rebuke I Ever heard from an Indian. The 3 boys were
smoking they asked Petone if He would not smoke with
them. He looked them sternly in the face and said No
the Great Spirit has told me if I would not smoke nor
Drink whiskey I should live a long time but if I
did I should live but a short time. I said to the
boys you should lay that rebuke to heart & never set
such an example again before an Indian

4 Petone & company started out Hunting on our return to sholo they killed 11 Deer & Antilope & came into sholo all loaded down The[y] killed in all 23 old ones & got 4 young Antilope & Deer total 27 And it was remarkable fact that they killed Every Deer & Antilope they saw on the Hunt I spent the night at Brother Easts 20 Miles (Petone gave 3 young Mormon Boys the strongest Rebuke I Ever heard from an Indian They were smoaking in the Evening while we were talking & they asked him to smoke He looked them sternly in the face & said "No the great spirit has told me if I would not smoke nor Drink whisky I should live 110 years But if I did do it I should not live long" I said to the Boys you lay that rebuke to heart & never set such a rebuke Example again before an Indian)
