Letter from Thomas Edwin Ricks and Joseph Coulson Rich, 12 June 1890

Blackfoot, Idaho, . Prest. Woodruff & Smith: Dear Bretheren, The trial of all criminal cases are over for the term and the jury (trial) discharged. James H. Mason, John D. Jones, Jacob Myers and Peter Jensen have been Sentenced for unlawful Cohabitation, Sentences ranging from three months to 200 fine. The Sentences in cases of Jonah Evans and W. C. Martindale for U. C. and Hyrum Skinner, L. D. Wilson, Neils Christensen and Wm Higginson for Adultery, are deferred until to-morrow. Notices of appeal in all the cases except Mason & Myers, who plead guilty, have been filed, the Attorneys holding that under the errors committed by the Court and lack of evidence these cases can all be reversed. The prosecution have raised the point that no bail can be allowed or proceedings stayed pending appeal, and this question will be argued to-morrow. Our attorneys have raised the question (and it is considered good)
