Letter from William Budge, 16 May 1891
Pres Wilford Woodruff, Dear Brother I was here about two weeks ago as a witness before the grand jury and call- ed the second time four days ago. This time against Bp. West of Paris who is charged with "illegal registering," and it is intimated that I will be wanted on some other cases. It is rumored here that U.S. Attorney Wood has had a com- munication from the Depart- ment in relation to these election cases, and that only a few will be tried; there is, however, quite a preparation being made against Bro. West. I think Mr Wood is anxious to get judgment in a few cases—probably to justify the doing so much work and spending so much money in getting out so many indictments,
