Letter from Charles Ora Card, 17 August 1891

Recd 27 [August 1891] Ans. Sept. 29 [18]91 [end of sidways text] Cardston N. W. T. Canada Aug. 17th 1891 Prest. Wilford Woodruff Salt Lake City Utah U. S. A Dear Brother Since writing you on the 27th ult. we have had a visit paid us by his Hon. Mr. C. A. Magrath and others concerning the further purchase of lands here, which I consider proper to acquaint you of. We are now offered 200000 acres of land at $100 per acre. I was quietly told he could get one ^hundred thousand^ at the same figure. Should you desire to strengthen our hold here now is the time. I believe we could get the land with a greater extention of time & less interest than we paid for the block already purchased. I firmly believe we could purchase at 20 yrs time if desired & 4 percent interest. Would it not be well to form a syndicate on a purchase of this kind?

Letter from George Reynolds, 17 August 1891

Salt Lake City, U.T. To the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Dear Brethren: Permit me to draw your attention to the fact that the appropriation of $50,00000 made by the Church, 28th August, 1888, to the General Church Board of Education is now entirely consumed— indeed slightly overdrawn. If you simply desire, at the present time, to make an appropriation to cover the approaching Academic Year, I think that $20,00000 will meet the ordinary expenses for that period. Respectfully, Your Brother Geo. Reynolds, Sec. Gen. Church Board of Education
