Letter from Fred Keller, 10 November 1891

Salt Lake City . President Wilford Woodruff: Dear Brother: A letter from you dated October 26, 1891, which I received a short time ago informs me that my name had been suggested and accepted as a missionary to Scandinavia; and that the date of my departure in case of acceptance has been set 128 inst. or Dec 5, 1891. I must confess that my feelings in regard to this call are somewhat peculiar, in as much as the circumstances I am placed in just now render it simply impossible for me ^to go on a mission^ on such a short notice, although I would be willing to do my best in these respects, was I at present in a position to do so. I am called as I understand to labor in Scanadinavia which seems to me to be a mistake. I was born in Switzerland and the German language is my mother tongue, Swedish or Danish would therefore be just as strange to me as any of the Indian languages. It would seem to me therefore a loss of time and a retard in my labors until I cwould be able to master

Letter from Niels Peder Anderson, 10 November 1891

Box Elder, Utah, . Prest. Wilford Wooddruff, Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Brother: In the latter part of the summer I was asked if ^I^ would accept of a mission to Scandinavia to labor in the literary department. I answered yes, and was thereupon informed to report to you as soon as I was ready after the 1st of Nov.; I therefore feel it a duty to give an account of myself. In the intervening time I have, upon a complaint sworn to by marschal St John, been arrested for unlawful cohabitation and put under $1000 bonds. I waived examination before the Commissioner and the case is now before the Grand Jury. They have no case and I do not fear the is- sue; but for the time being I am, of course, not at liberty. When that time again arrive I will take pleasure in so informing you. The girl, who they claim is my plural wife,

Circular to the Presidents of Stakes and Bishops of Wards, 10 November 1891

Office of the First Presidency, November 10th, 1891. To the Presidents of Stakes and Bishops of Wards: DEAR BRETHREN: It has been decided that it is no longer necessary for those going to the Temples to attend to ordinances therein to send their recommends to President Woodruff, to be by him endorsed. The signatures of the Bishop and Stake President will be all that is required. This being the decision, Bishops of Wards and Presidents of Stakes will see the increased necessity for care, so that no unworthy person will be recommended for ordinances in the Temples. Your brethren, Wilford Woodruff Geo. Q. Cannon Jos. F. Smith First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Letter to Orson Smith, 10 November 1891

Salt Lake City, . Prest. Prest Orson Smith Cache, Stake of Zion. Dear Brother: The accompanying circular regarding recommends does not apply to Second Annointings. Whenever you have names you desire to suggest for this higher ordinance they must still be submitted to me, in the usual way, for my approval. Your Brother W Woodruff
