Letter from Aaron Hardy Jr., 6 March 1894
President Wilford Woodruff: Dear Brother, Some time since, I received a letter signed by you, dated Jan. 8th last, addressed to "Adam" Hardy Jr. Moroni, notifying him of being called to go on a Mission to the Southern States, to start June 9th &c. I wish to say that there is no Adam Hardy, in this Ward. If I am the person for whom the call was intended, permit me to say that my reason for not answering sooner was that I was held as surety on an obligation of a friend, which I had to pay on the 3rd inst. I had hoped it would be otherwise, that I might report myself ready to start as above, if wanted. I have had to part with all my available means, but if I am wanted, I respectfully desire six months or more time in which to raise the nec- cessary means when, although realizing my in- ability to do much good, I will ^go and^ do the best I can. I remain Your Brother Aaron Hardy Jr. J W Jons Bp He is no doubt the man we want. Give him the time he needs. J. F. S.
Letter from Joseph Harvey Ward, 6 March 1894
To the First Presidency of the Church Dear Brothers I suppose it is a fact well known, that I along with my co-workers Bishop F. W. Schonfeld, and Edward Schonfeld have labored with all our might to establish a good German Mormon newspaper. and I for my part have spent all my property in putting the paper upon a good basis and the Schonfeld brothers have worked the past three years faithfully without reward. Now that the paper is beginning to give returns an attempt is made to injure it by starting a rival paper, especially as it is stated that the authorities of the Church approve of the scheme.
