Salem Pres. Woodruff Dear Brother Yours of the 2nd come to hand in due time. Will say in regard to time of starting that if it is agreeable with you to give me about one month longer to get ready in it would be quite a help to me. for this reason I am a farmer and have no other way of raising means and this would give me a chance to market my produce and pay my debts, as I am in debt Some. I would like to know if this is agreeable with you. if not I will try and get ready to start on the 12th of September. Yours truly Joseph A. Stone David R. Taylor Bishop
Letter from Abraham Owen Woodruff, 10 April 1896
Berlin, . Prest. Wilford Woodruff My Beloved Father: Your kind letter of Mar. 25th just to hand and as it contained the news of Grandfather Weilers death I sent it at once to Jake and recomended that he forward it to Prest. Naegle as I hope he may be allowed to go home with me. I have something else to tell you which may be of interest. "If God will I am coming Home." How does that sound Ma? Yes next Sunday I am to deliver my farewell address and have almost killed myself walking around to visit the Saints and friends for the last time. The present program is for me to go alone, but I am trying to work with the powers to move upon Prest. Naegle to let one of the boys go with me. Neal and I could not both leave the Berlin Branch at present but I think Jake could go. Do not know what date I shall sail from Liverpool. Must visit Dresden, Leipzig and Frankfurt. Will likely be home in the latter half of May but will write you more
