Dear Brethren-
As I expected Bro Cutler to inform you re-
specting the condition of affairs here at the last mail, I
have deferred writing until the present time.
I received mail from Tubuai and the Tuamotu
Islands yesterday, and matters are reported in as good
a condition as could be expected. The releasing of all
the old elders at the same time has left the Mission, you
might say, in a fleeced condition. I find seven elders
now, at the service of the Mission, four of whom have lit-
tle or no knowledge of the language, and two of the re-
maining three have less than two years experience, which
leaves but one fully equipped elder in the field. I shall
endeavor to use them as fast as they gain experience to the
best of my knowledge.
In enquiring into the condition of the surrounding
islands, I am impressed that there is a favorable op-
portunity for doing some work at the Cook Islands.
