Preston, Idaho, . President Wilford Woodruff and Counselors: Salt Lake City. Dear Brethren: I am requested by the Stake Board of Education to submit to you the condition of our Stake Academy and to offer such recommendations as, in our oppinion, will bring the necessary releiief and answer the demands of the people to continue the school in opperation; On June 10th our school closed with about 100 students in attendance, after a most successful years opperation. Earley in the month of January 1898, it was seen, from the Treasurers report, that our friends would be entirely exhausted by the middle of March, and different measures were discussed, looking to the continuation of the schootl to the end of the school year. The only plan that seemed at all faseasable was the one proposed by the fFaculty, viz: that Principal J. E. Hickman reduce his salary from $10000 per month to $9405 (a reduction of $10000 in all to the end of the year) and that after discontinuing the departments of music
