An Increased Determination to Follow Jesus Christ

by Maddie Christensen

“I think everyone should learn about Wilford Woodruff and the work being accomplished by the Project,” says Cliff Simpson, volunteer for the Wilford Woodruff Papers Project. “Wilford Woodruff made possibly the greatest impact on doctrine and practice in the Church of any prophet other than Joseph Smith.”

Cliff first heard about the Project through his family history research. He was impressed with Wilford Woodruff’s inspiration in establishing the Genealogical Society and his direction in the development of temple worship. He says, “I have been interested in Wilford Woodruff for years. He guided the Church through the most difficult times imaginable, he moved temple work forward in a most remarkable way in a time of great challenge and adversity.”

Cliff found the Project online after researching Wilford Woodruff. He first made a donation and then jumped at the opportunity to become a volunteer. He now helps out on the Public Relations Team transcribing captions of video testimonials. He shares, “Reviewing the videos with the emphasis on Jesus Christ has increased my determination to follow Him.”

Cliff also serves as a BYU–Pathway Worldwide service missionary. He and his wife support and mentor Pathway students in Latin America. They prepare the students for higher education and new employment opportunities while helping them achieve personal growth.

The Project as a whole has been very impactful to Cliff. “I am impressed with the quality, level of commitment and level of spirituality of so many people participating in the Project. I am impressed with the speed in publishing the Papers. Through volunteering, I have gained increasing knowledge of the Project and increasing faith in Jesus Christ through videos, newsletters, and other material.”
