"The Doctrine of Christ”

Powerful teachers of the doctrine of Christ are found all throughout the Book of Mormon. Nephi is no exception, and this week in Come, Follow Me, we have the privilege of studying his teachings on the gospel.

One of the important principles in the doctrine of Christ that Nephi taught is enduring to the end. Faith, repentance, baptism, and receiving the Holy Ghost are not one-time events, but rather lifelong pursuits to becoming more like the Savior (see 2 Nephi 31). Elder Renlund taught, “Enduring to the end is actively and intentionally repeating the steps in the doctrine of Christ. Thus, the doctrine of Christ becomes central to the purpose of life.”

As the doctrine of Christ has become central to my purpose in life, I have found so much joy and fulfillment every day! I recently returned from serving as a missionary in Oklahoma where I learned to apply the doctrine of Christ and help others do the same. I had a similar experience to Wilford Woodruff’s as a missionary. He recounted, “I never had more of the spirit of God in my life than when teaching the first principles of the gospel, and bearing testimony to the inhabitants of the earth that Joseph Smith was a true Prophet of God, that the Book of Mormon was true, and that the first principles of the gospel, as revealed through him, were the plan of life and salvation.”

The spirit will come into our lives as we share the gospel! I know that as we live the doctrine of Christ and share it with others, we can, like Nephi taught, “endure to the end, in following the example of the Son of the living God” and receive eternal life (2 Nephi 31:16).

She joined the Wilford Woodruff Papers and was drawn to its mission to deepen and strengthen faith through President Woodruff’s documents and history. Kamryn has a big, loving family who she recently reunited with after serving in Oklahoma as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loves hiking, playing card games, and watching movies with her family and friends.
