3rd [FIGURE] I recieved A letter from
Nauvoo from W. W. Phelps
containing A Power of Atturney to
collect some money for a Brother in Nauvoo
from Mr Luton of Liverpool I called but
He was not at home. I left Liverpool
took cars rode to Preston spent the night
with br Wm Smith distance 40 miles

Liverpool Dear Father & Mother I recieved your Kind letter under Date of Nov 28th And I have but a few mom[en]ts allotted me to give you an answer in order to have it go by the steem Ship. In reply to your Letter I would say: I have never recieved any council Either from president Young, the Lord or any Body els to go to Calafornia by water around Cape Horn. I have No intentions of going any other way ownly by Conneticut for the purpose of taking my Father & Mother with me and as many other friends that are in the Church as see fit to go with me. Letter to Ozem Thompson Woodruff, 3 January 1846

Liverpool Dear Brother in the Kingdom of God I once more call upon Uncle Ozem to read a few words from me of but a few as the ship is about starting. I have though[t] much of Uncle Ozem of late And to cut a long story short I am going to Nauvoo & there to Cala. I want to take my kindred with me, as may as will go. My family leaves Liverpool for Nauvoo via New Orleans the 10 Jan. I leave for New York the 16th I shall ^call^ upon father Woodruff in Farmington as I go along. I wish to see you then I think of taking father & Mother to the west with me & one of the greatest wishes of my heart is that Unclese Ozem maybe in our camp & go with us to esstablish a colony I dont know how Aunt Hannah & your family would feel about going with us if you or any of our friends that in the church wish to go with me I will Rendar them any assistance in my power I will with pleasure give my Respects to your family should you feel disposed to go along you will do well to make any preperations that you can before I can & the Rest afterwards I shall want to start for Conneticut the lart of everMarch. On I left Liverpool for Preston and preached on the Sunday The glasgow conference sent me elveven pounds three shillings and the Manchester conference 42 pounds and Birmingham six pounds to assist me and my family to return to America. I gave out of this 12 pounds to Elder Clark
