Letter from Mahala Robbins, 11 May 1853
St Joseph Dear Brothers Woodruff and Herriman—I take the liberty to address you to put you in remembrance of the promise made by each of you to me when you were in the east, that should I be able to get in this western country that I would have help. I have got as far as this and am not able to get any further. I came last Novr with three small children mrMr Robins did not Ccome with me and my health is poore and I cannot get any farther If you can in any way assist me to go to the valley next spring by recommending tme to the presiding Elder or in any way that you think best for me you would oblige me very much for I have a great desire to get there feand feel myself in the land of my enemies—perhaps you may have forgotten who I am and if so will you show this to Allexander Robbins and he will tell you where I lived when at the East. Your sister in the New & Everlasting Covenant Mahala Robbins Brother Woodruf do you remember the sister that gave you some chickens when you was on the Cape—if so I am that sister I have a son that went to the valley with A D Boyington and I have not heard from him since.
