Letter to Reuben Middleton and Amos William Riley, 28 July 1853
Great Salt Lake City, Messrs Middleton & Riley Gentlemen I write to ask a favor of you which is this I forwarded by Mr Wm E. Hornon who went East Last fall cash in U.S. gold $1552.40/100 to be forwarded to the firm of Sanbon & Carter of portland Maine with a fair promise from Mr Hornon that He would attend to the business for me promptly but those Gentlemen up to the first of m[a]y had not ^received^ the mony or one word from him in any way & I feel quite Anxious about it. Mr Kinkade informed me that He expeted Mr Hornor here soon with a drove of Cattle for you, but their has been a report here that He was not coming on this season, that He was in your employ &c. I have been acquainted with mMr Homon for several years but Never before done any business with him, but I had the most implicil[t] confidence in him as a man of business, integrity & honour from the recommends which I got concerning him. Now Gentlemen if you have any knowledge of this affair if He has made a deposit of this mony with you or made any arangements with you to pay it, or has communicated the matter to you in any way you will do me a great favor to by giving all the information you possess upon the subject to me the first opportunity by Mail Also to Sanbon & Carter of portland Main & if you have no knowledge of the
