Letter from Ilus Fabyan Carter, 13 October 1856
Portland Dear Sister & Brother Judge of my surprise in receiving a letter from you today after so long a time. I cannot really say when I have heard from you before. You stated that you had some time since written a family letter to the folks at Scarboro. I have not known of their receiving it, think if they had, I should have known it. It is very pleasant to me to hear from my friends and more to so to see them. how much I want to see you all I should be willing to make some sac rifice to spend a few days with you or to see you here, but it is uncertain when and where we may meet, if not on earth may it be in heaven You refer to some unkind feelings to ward Utah, I hear of none. Sin and iniq uity abounds to a great extent with us. Our ministers are becomeing political Priests jumping out of the pulpit with politics and from politics jumping into our treasury robing that. It is new with them bleed ing Ramsus, in that since it was O, the Pope the Pope, he will have us all murdered
