Discourse 1862-08-14
W. Woodruff spoke of the importance of sustaining the Agricultural Society, the interest of that Society, like the Kingdom of God, must live, and the Bishops being called and or- dained by the servants of the Living God, to look after the Temporal things of the Kingdom; He dwelt particularly on the present crisis, which should stimulate every one to take an increased interest in sustaining ourselves. He refer’d to the Hand of God which has been so visible, that every one living in the line of his duty, cannot fail to see. Being lately called to take the Presidency of that Society, he desired to have the co- operation of the Bishops, by laying this important subject before the members of their respective Wards, and endeavour to prevail upon every male member to become an annual subscriber, which only amounted to 1/2 a Bushel of wheat. He said it was the intention of the Board to build a good House, and cultivate land for the growth of choice Fruits &c as soon as funds would enable them to do so, they have just completed a Premium List, and though out funds, they are acting on a principle of Faith, and intend to offer every encouragement by way of stimulating the Brethren on this important subject; He spoke of a time when we should be thrown entirely upon our own resources from recent dis patches, and it behoves us to be awake and energetic, and the Lord will bless us.
