Letter to John Taylor, 11 April 1879
Mount Reffuge, Severe Co, Utah President John Taylor & Council Dear Brethren As I am 100 miles from Either post Office or Telegraph & have not heard a word from Utah or the outer world since the 1 of March. The ownly thing I have — heard was from a Calafornia Paper saying that there had beeen an Extra session of Congress called. I have had an anxiety to hear from your April Conference and also to hear from my family. One object I have in writing at the present time is this I consider myself a sort of an Indian Missionary & I have a few sugges- tions I would like to make First concerning the Key of all the Settlements of the Saints East of the Colorado is the ferries at Lees, Pierces, & Stones But as Most all our travel is across Lees ferry and in Ttalking with Br Johnson the ferryman & John W Young I learn that there is a prospect of Lees ferry going into the hands of a Gentile a sort of a Merchant living at the ferry And it appears to us that it is of Great importance to the Church that we should Hold Possession of that ferry ie that the Church should
