Letter from George Teasdale, 16 September 1887

My dear brethren:
Since I wrote you
last I have had two very interesting visits
one to London and Wales Conferences. In the ex-
pectation of you sending me seven good mission-
aries I have released seven to return home whose
time for two years is about out. I found the Elders
energetic and in good spirits although they do
not seem to be very much encouraged as far
as baptisms are concerned. It appears from
their reports that there are many dead branches
many names represented who really have no
standing. Out of the 294 members represented
in the Welsh Mission they count 80 that only
have a name are lost or who wish to have
their names removed. We have 10 elders labor-
ing in that principality. In the London Con-
ference it is the same. They have a debt
which will very likely never be paid being
the debts of the various Conferences that have
been joined to the London Conference when
have Conferences only consisted of scattered
members. I enclose some clippings from
some of the "Dailys." We had quite a warm
time but God protected us and delivered us
