July 29, 1887 ~ Friday

29 A folded letter/box I received 9 Letters from Jaques, Shettler, Sarah
James, McAllister Bishop Farrell G Q. C & J. F. Smith
Whittaker, I rode to the office and Met with with G Q
Cannon & Joseph F. Smith M Thatcher F. D. Richards
L. Snow & D H. Wells. The funeral of President John
Taylor
was held at the Tabernacle at 12 oclk & 15 M[inutes] the
congregation was called to order By A M Cannon the
presidt of the Stake (But according to my view it should
have been called to order by Lorenzo Snow the Highest authority
present as He was John Taylor was Presidt of the Church)
I saw the procession of the funeral Pass the Presidents office


On the street Passing the office there were 7 Bands of Music,
43 carriages, 31 Buggies, 19 waggons 1 cart there was 102
vehicles in all and a large congregation. Thus goes
to rest President John Taylor the third President of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

Salt Lake City Brother & Sister Thomas Cottam Dear Friends I write to say that I arrived in this City on the 28 at 10 oclock and spent the day in the Office and Met with Many friends The 12 & others and was very happy to once more meet with my friends in this City Emma & all the family sends Love all want to know how you are Alice enquires about Grand Ma & Grand Pa & wants to know how you are all getting along I have seen the Body of President Taylor, and the funeral is heald at the Tabernacle and a vast Congregation assembled 4 of the 12 will are at the Meeting I have seen my Children all were glad to see me Give my Love to the family God Bless you all Yours L Allen

Presidents Office, . Prest. J. D. T. McAllister, Dear Brother. I arrived here yesterday morning at 10 O'Clock, met with L. Snow. F. D. Richards, Clerks, &c, today meet with Geo. Q. Cannon, Jos. F. Smith, Moses Thatcher, D. H. Wells. & H. J. Grant. I visited the body of Prest. Taylor. 1 at night. and visited congregation at the Tabernacle services not in progress. L. Snow, F. D. Richards, H. J. Grant. J. W. Taylor. and D. H. Wells. attends the funeral. the rest of us at the Office. I left Bro. Thompson at Nephi. he will be here tomorrow night. All well as usual, people generally cheerful. please deliver the enclosed as directed and oblige. Not in a situation to do any business yet. My address will be to John Jaques at

S L City Wm Atkin Dear Brother I have ownly time to write a few lines I arived in this city yesterday Morning at 10 oclock spent the day in the office. The great funeral of president Taylor, is Held to day in the Taber- nacle a vast congregation. The procession has just passed. 7 Bands of Music, 102 carriages & Buggies, 4 of the Twelve attended I have 6 of the Twelve together & G. Q. Cannon & Joseph F Smith & D. H. Wells I have seen Emma & family all well. I am well as usual We had to Lead our 2 colts at Elsonore with Bishop Sylvester could not travel as fast as we did He will take leave of them I have No special News ownly what you got by the press Remember me fondly to Sister Atkin and all the family Yours Respectfully Lewis Allen My Address is John Jaques (outside) inside L Allen Box 321 S L City Utah
