Letter to John Daniel Thompson McAllister, 3 October 1887
President J. D. T. McAllister. St George. Dear Brother: Your very interesting and newsy letter of Sept 30th giving details on Temple matters and things in general, has been received and perused with much pleasure. I have been sick for a week but am now at the table again at my work. There is a good deal of sickness in this city and in this northern country. Fevers are very prevalent and several deaths. Elder L John Nuttall has also been unwell for a few days past and although at the office to-day he is not feeling as well as I wish he was.
Letter to Francis Asbury Hammond, 3 October 1887
Salt Lake City, U. T. President F. A. Hammond, San Juan Stake. Dear Brother: In considering the situation of affairs in San Juan Stake the Council of the Apostles expressed the feeling that they wished San Juan Stak[e] strengthened, and particularly Bluff City. They are not in favor of weakening that point, ^or having the Saints move from there into Colorado^ as they think it is of great importance to keep it up and to do al[l] that is possible to strengthen the hands of those wh[o] reside there, and also in the other settlements in that county. You, yourself, understand how import ant it is that we should maintain the political control of that county; but if settlements are made
