Letter from Leonard John Nuttall Jr., 28 December 1887
Salt Lake City President Wilford Woodruff Dear Brother. Being desirous of getting a position in the Legislative Assembly this winter and being advised to make application to you in writeing. I take the privelage of doing so, asking you as a favor to use your influence in my behalf. Haveing once served as sargent at arms in the councel I am somewhat aquainted with the duties of messenger Door Keeper &c. If I could get one of these offices it would be a great accom- adation to me and for which I would be truly greatfull, as I will be out of imployment at the end of the year. Respectifully Your Brother L John Nuttall Jr
Letter from Karl Gottfried Maeser, 28 December 1887
Provo City, Utah, President Wilford Woodruff, Dear Brother, According to my promise of last week I transmit you enclosed a printed copy of my report to the Board of Trustees of the B. Y. Academy read at the examination, Dec. 23. Your kind letter was duly received, and al- though regretting the absence of any representative of yours, we fully realize the nature of the circumstances preventing his presence. We are sorry to lose little Blanche from among our students, but her dispo- sition is such that she will do well wherever she goes. Her termship has been forwarded to you by the Secretary. In consideration of the depressed financial condition of this Academy, (the teachers' salaries again falling short for the first half year $800 in all), it has been determined by the Board to issue a Circular in form of a newspaper article, written by the respec- tive teachers, to call the attention of the people to the aims, inner workings, and results of the B. Y. A. This is to appear in the Enquirer at on January 2nd, and then to be reprinted in 2000 copies for distribution.
