Letter from Marriner Wood Merrill, 28 January 1888
th [188]8 Presedent Wilford Woodruff Dear Bro Your favor of 26th inst. Recd, will say in Answer there too; that there is but very little snow on the roof of the Temple, the roof itself does not leak, but it is the Gutter that catches the watter from the roof that leaks, the Gutter being on the inside of the walls and leaks down on the inside of the rooms, we cleared the snow out of the Gutter when it stoped snowing and when it rained a few day ago, it then leaked; and this is not the first time it has leaked but it leaked before the Temple was dedicated, I have had Bro Quale on the roof, with the new tinners &c and Spent some $15000 or More Dollars to try and stop the leakege but they have not entirely or in fact onely have stoped it from leaking for short periods. in my opinion a new covering will have to be put over the Gutter altogather; I have been obliged to order from the East a new boiler for Engine Room, with kind regards Your Bro. in the Gospel M. It was felt that you were in a position to know who the other person would be and what pro- portion of the $1000.00 each should have, and this is
