[end of sideways text] Dean, Jos. H. Aunuu, Samoan Islands July 7. 1888. Pres. Wilford Woodruff} and George Q. Cannon} Dear Brethren: Several letters have passed between us, while I was upon the Sandwich Islands, concerning my coming to these islands to try and open up a mission among this people. I take great pleasure in reporting our safe arrival here, and the encouraging success we have met with up to date as follows: My wife Florence and I, and our four months old baby boy left Honolulu on the S. S. Alameda June 10th, just a year to the day from the time we arrived there. We took stearage passage ($75. each, with 20% off.) and were therefore quartered in different parts of the ship, the women having separate quarters. The venti- lation being bad and the heat intense we suffered considerably, especially the wife and little one, but after crossing the equator and getting somewhat out from under the sun the temperature moderated and we were more comfortable.
