Chattanooga, Tenn., ^Salt Lake City^ . President Wilford Woodruff Dear Brother: During the early part of last month Elder Thomas Holt left Tennessee for home having in his charge Elder Lloyd who had been released because of ill-health and who was unable to undertake the journey alone. Upon their arrival in Memphis they secured $7300 from a railroad agent with whom we do business with which to defray their expenses home. Since then the agent has drawn on our office in Chattanooga for the amount and the same has been forwarded him. Owing to our limited means and the expenses attached to the support of an office, we are hardly in a position to defray the expenses of returning Elders, and therefore respectfully ask, that if you saw proper, the above amount be

Wilford Woodruff, Dear Brother, Refering to your's I accompayned the gentlemen you spoke of, Mr Clements and Steinberger the[y] made all they investigation of the coal and iron mines, ^that they wished^ the[y] appeared well satisfied with what the saw doubtless you have heard from them. I gave them A good conveyance the time I spent was seven days, including expenses my bill will be forty five dols $45.00/100 I broke my carriage and some expense attached. over
