Letter from Thomas Edwin Ricks, 18 June 1889
Blackfoot, Idaho Pres. Wilford Woodruff Salt Lake City Dear Brother, according to promise I write to give you an account of todays proceedings. The Judge gave his charge to the Grand jury, it was a strong charge to tickle the ears of the large gathering of anti mormons in the Court room, he specially charged the jury to let the people alone and give special attention to the leaders of the people as they were the ones who were really culpable before the law. The great interest centers in the Contest case which begins tomorrow at 2 P.M. there will be over 100 witnesses in attendance and this case take presedence over all others. What the out- come will be we dont know, but hope the present officers will remain in office as a change would be detrimental to our interest will write again tomorrow and further post you with kindest regards Your Brother &c.
