16 I took two loads of persons to the rail Road track
to go to Ogden I went to the Gardo and signed
2 Recommends I received 1 Letters I attended
a Meeting of the Deseret Land Company also
an interview with L Snow & R^N^ C Newson
I went to the farm and to the R R & got the
family who had Been to the Lake 8 Miles

President Wilford Woodruff and Counsellors. Dear Brethren: I take the liberty of addressing you on the subject of the Church Emigration. Having read of late in the Deseret News, of the inconvenience and unpleasantness attending the journey of our people from New York to Salt Lake City, and having had a number of years experience in managing and conducting excursion parties, also being well acquainted with Railroad matters in general, I felt that I could offer a few suggestions that would remedy the difficulties complained of by our people, and would also be the means of saving them considerable expense.

President W. Woodruff. Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Brother: The energetic preaching of the gospel and the wide distri- bution of the printed word, has had the effect of stirring up the people in various parts of the mission and the spirit of persecution is [be]coming quite warm in some places. Jarman and his followers have been more successful in Manchester district than any where where he had been. There is an organization formed in Manchester that has for its avowed object the driving of the Mormons out of the country, an old timed mobocratic spirit that has followed up the Elders and Saints more or less from the beginning. I can remember in Bath, Somersetshire, where there was a large branch of the Chur[ch]. The Saints met in a central part of the town [in] a large hall. During the time Parrott [t]he antimormon was lecturing there, the [in]furiated mob smashed all the windows [a]nd broke up the meeting and mobbed [t]he Elders and Saints. There was never
