Letter to John Daniel Thompson McAllister, 22 January 1890
Salt Lake City, U. T. President John D. T. McAllister, St. George, Utah. Dear Brother: Your communication of the 10th inst. with accompanying letters, came duly to hand, was read and considered. From what we can learn of the whole matter from your letters and other sources, we conclude that it was designed to transfer the capital stock of the Church in the Rio Virgen Manufacturing SCo. from the Stake Association to the Temple Association, for the use and benefit of the latter, but not the dividends or other interests accrued and standing to the credit of the Church Association at the time the order was made for the transfer. You are well aware of the causes impelling this action and the pur- poses had in view. It is expected that the capital stock will be properly trans- ferred from the Stake to the Temple Association, and that from the time of such transfer, or rather, perhaps, from the time of the action of the Council in donating the same, the Temple Association will use the profits or dividends accruing there- from for the benefit of the Temple, and report the same from time to time to the Presidency of the Church. Thus a source of income, however small, is formed to help meet the expenses of the Temple. Jones, is publishing a book; and using the names of the Presidency in canvassing for subscribers; as having their sanction: While the manuscript does me wrong, The author being neither truthful or honest in his general course; All my acts in Maricopa Stake, or elsewhere, are freely open to inquirey and I solicit the oppertunity of investigation: If as I am informed Apostle A H Cannon. has fully decided to publish; what the manager of the "News Office" regarded as in part unfit for publication; something is wrong: And if the work is done; and injury to myself and others occurrs; We will abide the result, and ^seek^ redress, with your approval through the proper channel: Ample evidence as I believe can be furnished to show that the above named D.
