Letter from George Thatcher, William Bowker Preston, Moses Thatcher, Simpson Montgomery Molen, Richard Whitehead Young, 15 July 1890
President Wilford Woodruff President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Brother: dWe most respectfully represent that in the year 1877, the said President Brigham Young conveyed to us, as trustees, certain lands and property in the county of Cache, Territory aforesaid, for the purpose of endowing a school therein; that shortly after the conveyancie was received, which was in July of that year, we entered into possess- ion of the premises conven^y^ed, and established a school, which has been in operation from that date until now; that the income from the real property is adequate to accomplish the purpose designed by the grantor, and that the system of leasing inagureated by you^r^ correrpond- ents has been one calculated to result in the injury of the land rather than its enhancement or increase in value. That we are of the opinion that if the premises and property could be sold to residents here in the County, or others desiring to buy it, for such fprice as we believe can be realized for it, the money could be invested to make greater returns than is now made for the land. We therefore request that you consider the matter, and, if you deem for the best good, authorize us to sell said premises and property and make deeds of the same in fee simple, and invest the money arising from the same for the purpose intended by the grantor of the deed. Most respectfully Yours. G. W. Thatcher Wm B Preston Moses Thatcher Simpson M Molen Richard W Young
Letter from Thomas M. Tarbet, 15 July 1890
Logan W. W. Woodruff Dear, Brother, I received your note saying that I had been chosen to go on a mission to Great Britain starting in september and also wishing to know my feelings in regard to the same. I will state that I make no claim of being a preacher, but, I am willing to go and do the best that I can, but I would like to have the time of starting extended to Oct. next if it can be made conven- ient with you and there is a company of Elders going about that time, as it would leave a great gdeal of my crop ^(being a farmer)^ in the field if I had to go in September. hoping to hear from you soon, I remain your Brother in the Gospel. Thos M. Tarbet Give him his time. J. F. S.
Letter from Joseph Henry Dean, 15 July 1890
Presidents Wilford Woodruff George Q. Cannon and Joseph F. Smith Dear Brethren: Elders Bassett and Summerhayes have just arrived, bringing your favor of June 23rd, the $150 Dollars etc. Mail closes for home in 1 hr. so I have only time to drop you a few lines. Thanks brethren for your liberality, not only in this instance but in many instances in the past. I feel honored and blessed in the confidence you have shown in me, and the liberal support you have given me. Thanks also to Bro. George Reynolds for a personal donation of $10. I received his letter last month reporting progress on our tract. I have hurriedly glanced over the 40 pages sent by the brethren and am delighted to find so few mis- takes. The prospects of its getting out in she such good shape had made us all feel quite happy. Bro. Lee has just ex- claimed, "By George! Bro. Dean, tho' we hate to let you go, your tract will more than take your place." There are a good many mistakes
